SOTW: Billie Eilish - Chihiro
And I used to think that October was a difficult month.
genre: (finneas-) pop
when to play: dealing with a complicated romantic situation, or dreaming about one
Not a fan of miss Eyelash's music, but one has to appreciate the outstanding work Finneas does on her records.
I have always been impressed with the production and the general uniqueness of the sound and melodies on them.
"Hit me hard and soft" was one of the only Billie records I did very much enjoy listening to, and while it
isn't the type music I find myself wanting to return to, I do think this album deserves all its accolades.
Chihiro in particular is a standout for me - a song that doesn't make a point to show off her vocals, but they're
definitely a huge part in its greatness - both perfectly understated and perfectly out there when needed.
The theme of the song hit close to home recently, and it won amongst all the "heartbreak" songs that have been in my rotation.

SOTW: Radiohead - 2 + 2 = 5
She's been admitted to a hospital a second time! Oh, and a convict won US elections.
genre: rock
when to play: when you need an angry rock out
Since having a fever that went over 40 degrees Celsius wasn't exactly charging me with energy, it's been pretty
bleak on the music front for me, yet one album immediately sprung to mind after US election results were announced -
Radiohead's Hail To The Thief.
A record that's usually not a fan favourite has frankly some great standalone songs, 2 + 2 = 5 being one of them.
Listen to the lyrics. "It is too late now" is what so many of those who have been watching world politics feel.
But the song - I love the composition, the guitars, how it all comes together and how angry it suddenly starts to sound.
And I am angry, too.

SOTW: Jamie XX - Waited All Night
First entry!
genre: electronic
when to play: the club, home alone, a house party
Jamie's In Waves was one of the first albums I listened to after I got back from the hospital. There's so much energy and joy in it, but it's not forced. I just feel so good
when listening to it. The mix is absolutely wonderful, the instruments and sounds are so diverse, and, as always, he brings a great fresh sound on his tracks.
This song in particular is special to me - not only does it makes me want to dance so hard in spite of my stiches aching on any radical move, but it brings the 2010's nostalgia as he
features the vocals of his the xx bandmates' on the track, who were a big part of my teenage years. The combination of their voices is absolutely stunning to my ear (and that little melody Romy does on the chorus? so catchy!) and this track manages to put me into such a groove - and in these personally rough times, not many songs were able to do that.
